Last week, City People Senior Property Reporter, Isaac Abimbade spent quality time with Mr. and Mrs. Kirk at Oriental Hotel, Lagos where they revealed the plan of Kirk Brown Global Investment, in Nigeria. Excerpts.
Why did you choose to come to Nigeria?
We were actually thinking of taking this opportunity to China. That was our original plan. But different things started happening there and now I see why God has brought us to Nigeria. This opportunity should have been available to Nigerians years ago.
Can you briefly tell us about your background, and what you do in the USA before you decided to come to Nigeria?
I started off from a very humble beginning. I remember I grew up in the middle of the winter, no electricity. I come from a very humble background. But I went to school. I graduated. And I went into the Military, from the military I got involved in the Real Estate and God has been so good to us.
What attracted you to Real Estate in the first place?
The financial gain (smiles). It makes someone from being zero/barely have nothing to being wealthy and that is the kind of things we are doing in Nigeria. We are offering an opportunity with KBGI programme for someone who has the similar situation of how I grew up, that they too can have white connections.
What are the benefits of this programme (Kirk Brown Global Investment)?
One of the major benefits is we are paying in Dollars. You know it is a really stable currency (Dollars). You have people here who spend more than the amount of what we are selling our properties and the returns are minimum compared to what we are offering.
Can you tell us the impact of this programme will have on the average Nigerian because of the state of Nigerian economy?
This programme is going to change Nigerians. It is going to be huge. It will spread across Africa and eventually the world.
You have been in Nigeria for the past 3 weeks now and back there in the US there are lots of negative stories about Nigeria. What is your assessment now?
I’m coming back! (Smiles). I love Nigerians a lot. I do. We are actually coming back in July 1st and we will be here for 9 days. Nigeria is beginning to feel like our home.
You have been to Abuja, Port Harcourt and today you had another programme/seminar here in Lagos. Are the seminars similar to what you had in those 2 cities?
Very similar. But the difference is that, I believe Lagos is going to be the KBGI hub. I can tell just by the kind of people that we meet here. They are business minded people.
You have been in Nigeria for almost 3 weeks now, what is your experience like?
(His Wife) It’s been a great experience. I have learnt a lot and we are very excited to come back.
How can you convince Nigerians to key into KBGI programme?
(His wife)It’s an opportunity because you are going to be making dollars. It is a huge opportunity.
How can an average Nigerian benefit from this opportunity?
That is when the referral comes in. Referring up to 10 people will or can give them enough of money to buy their own house in the US
What is the key advantage of owning a house in the US?
(Kirk Brown) The key advantage is stability. And on top of that, no one makes an investment to take 25 years to make a return but the prices of properties we are offering now are the properties that will be paid for themselves for 5-7 years. Like I said earlier, there are not too many opportunities of investment out there that within 7 years you make money off your property and the properties still appreciate in value.
Have you been encouraged so far with the turnout of Nigerians?
(Kirk Brown) Yes, particularly in Port Harcourt. Several companies have expressed their interests. Companies like Agip, Shell etc. they are all interested. There are about 21 companies that have expressed interest and we are going to meet with them when we come back from the US.
Are you feeling at home in Nigeria?
(His wife) Yes. I do. I’m comfortable with my surroundings. It is a wonderful feeling.
What you hear about Nigeria in the US are they the same thing you have experienced in your 3 weeks of staying in the country?
(His wife). No. We hear lots of negative things. Like poverty and that is everywhere but what we see here is completely different and wonderful.
